Baby Shower Spotlight: More Than Just a Dream

In our Baby Shower Series, we’re uncovering the details behind some of the loveliest events that honor Mom, from theme and invitations to food and decor. This month’s feature is a dreamy white baby shower for Cassandra, a Mom-to-be who also happens to be an event planner and founder of Event Prep based in Toledo, OH. Her beautiful celebration was photographed by Amanda Collins Photography. Let’s take a peek!
Theme, Invitations & Decor:
Cassandra shared that she had dreamed about being a Mama for years and that her journey into motherhood wasn’t easy. “I always had a baby playlist I would listen to when I needed to go for a drive to hope, pray or cry it out. Ezra Vine's song ‘Celeste’ features a lyric ‘you’re something out of a dream,’ and I knew if I was ever pregnant that’s how I’d feel.”
Fast forward to when Cassandra was expecting, “After leaving one of my doctor’s appointments, another one of the songs on my playlist came on the radio: Fitz & The Tantrums’ ‘Out of my League.’ I heard the line ‘you are more than just a dream,’ and a calmness came over me…It wasn’t just a dream anymore, it was more, it was real. Later, when I was thinking about the baby shower, I knew this HAD to be the theme.’
Cassandra’s dreamy baby shower theme was first revealed in her invitations (by Minted), where the co-ed guests were encouraged to embrace the event’s color palette by wearing their favorite white attire. Decor and table settings further enhanced the theme and overall feel of the day.
“Large balloon garlands, meant to resemble clouds, hung from the ceiling. Place settings featured custom ribbons with each guest’s name on them along with sugar cookies that resembled baby onesies, a sleepy teddy bear under a blanket, and a letter cutout A with calligraphy ‘August’ added on top; a way for us to introduce our baby boy's name to our family and friends. For an extra special touch, custom cloud and star printed napkins were sewn for each guest to use, all of which will be repurposed as burp cloths when the baby arrives.”
Flowers, Food & Drinks:
Cassandra chose floral centerpieces and arrangements featuring white roses, baby's breath (some dyed baby blue for an ombre effect), hydrangeas, snapdragons, and daisies. For lunch, guests enjoyed chicken salad on croissants and an assortment of sandwiches, pasta salad, and fruit. A beautiful two-tier vanilla cake was decorated with blue and white icing, and featured “BABY” blocks and a fondant teddy bear at its base.
Last but not least, a fun champagne bar featured a “Poppin’ Bottles” sign (with mini baby bottles on top!) and glasses with cotton candy cloud toppers. Guests could enjoy a beverage of their choice, including Mama-to-be’s pick of the day (the non-alcoholic Fre champagne) or one of Daddy-to-be’s favorite beers.
Photo Areas:
The baby shower included a couple of thoughtful areas for memorable photo opportunities, like a hand painted wooden backdrop wall with blue clouds that displayed "You Are More Than Just A Dream” on the front. And also, “One of the dreamiest details of the party was our ‘On Cloud Nine’ white swing where guests could pose for a photo while being surrounded by fluffy white clouds, made with white lanterns and poly-fil.”
