Ask Us Anything: August Edition

Gifts for an older sibling, gender reveal party presents, and what to give a co-worker who just had a baby!

New mom & baby gifts are joyous and fun! But that doesn’t mean it’s always easy to decide what to give. We’re here to help! You submitted your what-to-gift questions and we’ve got you covered with some ideas to make your gift giving easier. Shall we get started?

Q: I want to include something for the baby’s big sister in my gift box (so she doesn’t feel left out). Any ideas?

Good thinking! How about a stuffed animal, Cuddle + Kind doll or book for the big brother or sister? From our experience, a little something for the older sibling goes a long way in helping Mama ensure that everyone feels included…when all eyes (naturally!) are on the newborn.

When you curate-your-own Nurtured 9 gift box for Mom and her newborn, simply add in one of the items mentioned above – perfect for an older sibling - so that when Mama opens up her beautiful gift, the big brother or big sister who’s excitedly watching her unwrap the present will see that special item, just for him or her.

Q: I was just invited to a big gender reveal party. What should I bring?

While bringing a gift to a gender reveal party isn’t required by any means, it’s a lovely gesture and a fun way to share in the excitement of the big Boy or Girl unveiling. At a gender reveal party, there will likely be lots of food, drink and joyful celebration, so it makes sense to contribute something to the happy occasion, in some form or another. Here are a couple of gifts we curated specially as gender reveal “hostess gifts” (plus more here).

You also have the option of curating your own gift for the new parents and hand-selecting the items you want to include, that way you can customize your gift box in whatever way you please! Some of the individual items that you can add to your gift box to give a nod to the “gender reveal” excitement of the occasion could be the pink and blue pacifiers, pink and blue rock candy or pink and blue wildflower confetti (that’s both celebratory and practical, as the confetti is actually seeds that you can plant to grow beautiful flowers!). Enjoy the party!

Q: My co-worker and his wife just had a baby. What’s an appropriate present?

For a work associate, you can’t go wrong with one of our classic new baby gifts like The New Family Gift Box that’s focused entirely on the newborn or the Cozy at Home Newborn Parent Gift Box that includes a couple of items for Mom and Dad, too. You can also curate your own at any price point and pick exactly what you want in there, we’d just suggest steering clear of anything too personal, like our postpartum recovery items, unless you’re particularly close. (Because although our focus at Nurtured 9 is the comfort of Mama, and postpartum Moms need and appreciate items like an herbal sitz bath or organic nipple butter post-birth, it’s definitely less awkward if those gifts don’t come from John in accounting!)

Curate a Nurtured 9 gift box that’s more directed towards the new baby with items like baby clothes, stuffed animals, teethers, and lovies, and of course a few more general items for the new parents like lightly-scented nontoxic candles, savory snacks, and sweet treats, and you’ll be golden! We also have the option of adding your company logo to a stuffed animal’s nametag, the handwritten notecard or a leather tag on the gift box itself if you’re looking for a customized branded corporate touch to your coworker baby gift!
